We combine ingredients to create flavor in our food. We are elects of God, where God expects us not to be tricked into the sin of the word. 

The purpose of attending school is to Earn Knowledge for your own use. When you acquire knowledge, the expectation is that you translate that knowledge into a certain output; you can't just know and say that you will not produce a certain result from it.

 Peter is saying that we need to achieve a certain spiritual goal in our lives should be a must. Since you have separated yourself from the world, there is nothing in you that is interesting in you.
