Black History Month Ep. 9 - Black Labor Leaders and Worker Struggles

In the episode of our #BlackHistoryMonth podcast we dig into the archives to share a few stories from our 2015 Civil Rights Tour. We sat down with Norm Hill of the A. Phillip Randolph Institute, UAB Professor Horace Huntley, and nurse Louise Brown to talk about the struggle of workers to organize in the south.

First, Norman Hill from the A. Phillip Randolph Institute explains how he met the iconic civil rights and labor leader and how it was working under the Civil Rights hero.

Horace Huntley, Professor of History at the University of Alabama shares Birmingham's history of using convict mine workers that pitted black miners against white miners.

Louise Brown, a nurse at the Medical University of South Carolina was one of twelve nurses fired for insubordination that sparked a four month strike.
